hey @ ppl who spend thousands of dollars on a pure breed puppy…. have u heard of….. shelters….?????
some people like pure dogs. there isn’t anything wrong with wanting to get a pure dog. there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting a shelter dog. all dogs are great. just get a dog that makes u happy.
There is a lot wrong with pure breeding.
- Selective breeding in dogs is cruel as it often results in birth defects, that give them poor health (blindness, tiny skulls, breathing problems, epilepsy, hip dysplasia, etc)and fatal issues later in life
- Many purebred dogs are inbred in order to keep their characteristics
- If you buy a purebred dog you might be buying from a puppy mill- which is basically an awful “factory style” dog breeding facilities that put profit above the welfare of dogs. Animals from puppy mills are housed in shockingly poor conditions with improper medical care. The moms of the puppies are kept in cages to be bred over and over for years, without human companionship and with little hope of ever joining a family. And after they’re no longer profitable, breeding dogs are simply discarded—either killed, abandoned or sold at auction. Most puppies in pet stores and sold online come from puppy mills. The dogs are sold to unsuspecting consumers in pet stores, over the Internet and through classified ads. Puppy mills will continue to operate until people stop supporting them.
Not to mention shelter dogs are often mutts, meaning they won’t be inbred and will be a healthy mix of breeds, shelters and rescue groups often include vaccinations, microchipping, and spaying or neutering in the adoption fee, you’ll know you aren’t supporting puppy mills as they aren’t earning from your adoption, and you’ll be saving a life
While I’m always going to be inclined to recommend a shelter first, you just described the absolute worst possibilities that could come from breeding.
Go through a trustworthy breeder and you shouldn’t have this kind of problem. Deformations because of selective breeding is drastically lowered if your local breeder is working with a network of other breeders. They aren’t locked up in cages like puppy mills; they are part of the breeder’s family. Frequent vet visits are made to ensure the health of mom and her pups, and they won’t be sold until they’re old enough.
People want dogs for a variety of reasons and you’re not always going to find a dog you can take home at the shelter. If you want a good guard dog here in southern California and your apartment doesn’t allow pit bulls (most don’t), you’re going to be out of luck. If you like hunting here, hunting dogs aren’t really going to be found at shelters.
I’m going to reiterate that I would prefer people adopt, but it isn’t always ideal. OP’s scare tactics only illustrate the darkest part of what breeding can be like. It’s not always like that. Breeding can be perfectly healthy and bring you the perfect fit for your family, but you need to choose your breeder carefully.

Nami has been my bbygirl ever since she came out, so its only right to pay her homage via print. Hope you guys like it! I spent a long time on this one.
so now when i try to view tumblr on mobile, it won’t load any posts. what a fucking amazing website
Confession: I find it hilarious that BioWare and gaming sites had to issue a PSA to Dragon Age Inquisition players about leaving The Hinterlands and having to remind them it was only the starting area.
Don’t think they issued it, although they supported the shit out of it. Wasn’t it originally just a reddit post? And then gaming sites made their own, I thought.
